Janez Lotric studied singing with Ksenija Vidall-Zebre and at the Music Conservatory of Ljubijana under the guidance of Otta Ondina – Klasinc. He later specialized with Hilde Zadek in Wien and with Mario del Monaco. His carreer began in Slovenia, Croatia, the Czech Republic and Slovakia and in Germany until he was descovered by Lutz Hochstraate during a production of Ariadne auf Naxos in which he portrayed a triumphant Bacchus. He was immediately engaged for Carmen (Don José) in 1995 and in the season 1996-1997 for Cavalleria rusticana (Turiddu) in Salzburg.

In addition to the Italian, French and German repertoire, he also sings rare works, such as the title role of the popular Croatian Opera Comique Ero, the picaro (Ero).
