Junyoung Choi is a South Korean baritone, born in August 1996. He graduated with distinction from the Korea National University of Arts, where he quickly distinguished himself as one of the most promising young talents of his generation.
His early achievements include first prizes at major national competitions such as the Korea National Opera Competition, the Korea Broadcasting System Music Competition, and the Daegu International Vocal Music Competition.
To further develop his international career, Choi moved to Berlin, where he is currently pursuing advanced studies at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin under the guidance of baritone Ralf Lukas.
His artistic growth has been recognized at numerous international competitions, where he has received several important awards, including Prize Winner at the AsLiCo Competition, Third Prize at the Viotti International Music Competition, Second Prize at the Salvatore Licitra Competition, First Prize at the Franco Bonisolli Competition, and First Prize at the Piero Cappuccilli Competition.
On the operatic stage, Choi has appeared in roles such as Belcore in L’elisir d’amore, Conte in Le Nozze di Figaro, and Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia. He also portrayed the title role in Falstaff as part of the Opera Domani tour. A major milestone in his career was his portrayal of Scarpia in Tosca at the Teatro Sociale di Como, where he received critical acclaim for his powerful stage presence, dramatic intensity, and musical depth.
Junyoung Choi continues to build a growing presence on the European operatic scene, captivating audiences with his expressive and refined vocality.
