Swedish mezzosoprano, of greek ancestry, Katarina Giotas received her musical education at Ingesund College of Music, The Vadstena Academy, Opera studio 67 and The University College of Opera in Stockholm.
She made her debut as Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro in Stockholm and she also had great success in this role at the Göteborg Opera, after she debuted as Don Ramiro in La Finta Giardiniera at the Royal Opera in Stockholm.
She performed Queen Kristina in Daniel Börtz’ new opera Magnus Gabriel at Läckö Slottsopera in summer of 2008 as well as leading female roles in Börtz’s Goya commissioned by the Göteborg Opera in 2009, Emilia in Otello, Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte at the Göteborg Opera 2009/10, Princesse Bouillon in Adriana Lecouvreur, Suzuki in Madama Butterfly at the Royal Danish Opera 2010/11, Charlotte in Werther, Carmen in Stockholm and at Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Amneris in Aida at Teatro Massimo in Palermo.
Among her recent engagements are: Suzuki in Madama Butterfly at The Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen in 2010/11; Carmen at Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm and at Teatro La Fenice in Venice in 2012; Werther (Charlotte) in Estonia, Aida (Amneris) at Teatro Massimo in Palermo, and Carmen at Teatro La Fenice in Venice in 2013; Werther (Charlotte) in Estonia and the debut as Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier at Deutsches Nationaltheater in Weimar in 2014; Der Rosenkavalier in Weimar and the debut as Judith in the Bluebeard’s Castle at Göteborg Opera in 2015; in 2016 Suzuki in Madama Butterfly in Göteborg and in Naples.
During the season 2016/17: Judith in Bluebeard’s Castle at Festival Janacek in Brno, Carmen at Göteborg Opera.
During the summer 2017 has been Maddalena in Rigoletto with Savonlinna Opera Festival, in the autumn 2017 she performed Das Lied von der Erde in Sweden and Rigoletto (Maddalena) in Pavia, Como, Brescia, Cremona and Bergamo.
In 2018: Rigoletto in Jesi and Madama Butterfly in Göteborg.
In 2019: Bluebeard’s Castle in Brno and Carmen in Göteborg.
